Government strengthens student transportation with the delivery of 40 new buses
In a continuous effort to facilitate access to higher education, President Luis Abinader delivered 40 new buses intended for the transport of university students in various communities across the national territory. With this contribution, the current government administration brings the total to 90 units placed at the service of young people who must travel daily to their study centers.
The event, held within the framework of the International Youth Day commemoration, served as a stage for the president to highlight the social impact of this initiative. Abinader emphasized that, although the acquisition of these vehicles does not constitute the State’s largest investment, its value lies in the security and confidence it provides to thousands of students who face economic challenges in covering their transportation costs.
Transportation is a fundamental piece for students to be able to attend and remain in universities, also representing a significant relief for Dominican families who must cover the daily travel expenses of their children.

Launch of the TURNO Program
During the day, the Minister of Youth, Carlos Valdez, presented the University Transport Program Route of New Opportunities (TURNO). This strategy seeks to institutionalize and organize student associations to optimize transport routes according to the geographical needs of each community.
- Comprehensive management: The program will cover essential operating expenses such as insurance, driver salaries, and preventive maintenance of the units.
- Efficient use: The buses may be enabled to serve neighboring communities when they are not operating on their main routes.
- Sustainability: The central objective is to ensure that the service is maintained permanently and efficiently.
Minister Valdez emphasized that this project adds to a broad government offering that includes more than 110,000 scholarships available for young people, in addition to the expansion of educational infrastructure through the construction of new extensions of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) and the creation of university cities.
With these actions, Alofoke Deportes highlights the State’s commitment to breaking down the logistical barriers that prevent students in remote areas from achieving their academic goals, thus promoting a more inclusive and accessible education for all.
