Abadina celebrates 63 years strengthening basketball in the National District
The National District Basketball Association (Abadina) reaches its 63rd anniversary this Friday, consolidating itself as a key institution for sports promotion in the Dominican capital. Since its founding on September 4, 1963, the organization has maintained an unwavering commitment to the club structure, a fundamental basis for the development of new talent in the discipline.
The TBS District 2026: A historic edition
As part of the festivities for its sixty-three years of existence, the entity has prepared a special agenda. The highlight will be the 50th edition of the Superior Basketball Tournament of the National District, called the “Golden Wedding,” an event that brings together the elite of basketball in the capital.
The tournament will feature the participation of eight iconic clubs that will seek glory:
- Mauricio Báez (Current champion)
- San Carlos (Runner-up)
- Rafael Barias
- Bameso
- Huellas del Siglo
- San Lázaro
- El Millón
- Los Prados
The tip-off is scheduled for Tuesday, September 15th at 8:00 PM, with the main stage being the Arena BanReservas Profesor Virgilio Travieso Soto, at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.
Abadina’s trajectory is the result of the effort of various generations of leaders who have dedicated their lives to the growth of our basketball. We are proud to continue promoting the club movement as an engine for social and sports development.

Betting on the future: Minor categories
Beyond the top tournament, the Abadina board has placed special emphasis on formative categories. On September 15th, at 6:00 in the evening, the U14 tournament will begin in both branches, male and female. This competition will bring together 40 teams and will serve as a showcase for the future promises of Dominican basketball.
This project is backed by the Dominican Basketball Federation and is coordinated by highly renowned figures in the technical field, such as Sports Immortal José “Maíta” Mercedes and prominent coach Melvyn López, who lead a team of national technicians committed to excellence.
With this anniversary, Abadina reaffirms its mission to be the pillar that supports the structure of the clubs, ensuring that basketball in the National District continues to be a benchmark of competitiveness and comprehensive development for the youth.
