Tragedy in San Cristóbal: Young woman dies after attack by her partner in El Cacique
A new tragedy shakes the province of San Cristóbal. A 26-year-old woman, identified as Esther Salomón, lost her life last Sunday night after being the victim of a violent stabbing attack allegedly perpetrated by her romantic partner in the El Cacique sector.
The unfortunate event has dismayed the local community and has immediately activated the investigation protocols of the competent authorities. According to preliminary reports, the young woman died due to the multiple wounds received during the altercation.
Ongoing investigation and search for the suspect
The spokesperson for the National Police, Colonel Diego Pesqueira, confirmed that the law enforcement agency, in coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, has initiated the necessary proceedings to clarify the facts. Currently, the authorities are maintaining an active search to locate a man of Haitian nationality, preliminarily identified as “Samson,” who is listed as the main suspect in this crime.
Investigators continue to collect evidence at the scene and work on gathering audiovisual material from nearby security cameras, with the aim of clarifying the dynamics of the events and locating the perpetrator to bring them to justice.
Alarming increase in gender-based violence
This case adds to the worrying list of femicides affecting the country. Statistical data reflect a critical reality regarding safety for women in the Dominican Republic:
