UFC Returns to Perth with Della Maddalena vs. Prates in the Main Event

The UFC has confirmed its return to Perth, Australia, with a main event that promises strong emotions. The expected match between local favorite and former UFC welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena, and Brazilian Carlos Prates, is scheduled for May 2 at the RAC Arena. This UFC Fight Night event will mark a milestone, as it will be broadcast in prime time for the Australian audience. This represents a significant change, as events are usually broadcast on Sunday morning to accommodate the North American audience. The preliminary card is expected to begin at 4:00 PM AWST (4:00 AM ET), and the main card at 7:00 PM AWST (7:00 AM ET).

This fight marks Della Maddalena’s return to the octagon since his last fight in November at UFC 322, where he lost his welterweight title to Islam Makhachev by decision. On the other hand, Prates, who has had an outstanding performance since his victory in the Dana White’s Contender Series in 2023, comes to this match with a record of 6-1 in UFC events and currently holds the number 5 position in the welterweight ranking. A victory over Della Maddalena could open the way to a title opportunity.

“Perth, we’re going to take it to the next level with UFC Fight Night Perth in 2026,” said Peter Kloczko, UFC Australia and New Zealand Senior Vice President.

Kloczko added that a high demand for tickets is expected due to the local prime time. The May 2nd event will be the second UFC Fight Night in Perth and the fifth overall UFC event since 2018, following UFC 221, UFC 284, and UFC 305. The UFC will announce more details about the main event and schedules in the coming weeks.
