ARLINGTON, Texas – The Texas Rangers are facing significant challenges with the recent injuries of two key players. Center fielder Evan Carter was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday due to a probable fracture in his right wrist, which could end his season. In addition, the team is awaiting the results of further tests on the foot of Marcus Semien, the experienced second baseman, to determine his physical condition. Both players suffered injuries in Thursday’s 6-4 loss to Kansas City, which marked the end of a mixed-results road trip for the Rangers. Carter was hit by a pitch and Semien suffered a left foot injury when hitting a ball in the first inning. Semien, who did not speak to reporters before Friday’s game against Cleveland, was still wearing a boot on his foot, showing the severity of his injury. “He’s in a lot of pain. He can barely walk with the boot on,” manager Bruce Bochy said. Ezequiel Duran started at second base on Friday, while the Rangers called up Michael Hellman from Triple-A Round Rock to replace Carter on the active roster. Before the injury, Semien had only missed six of the Rangers’ 615 games since joining the team before the 2022 season on a seven-year, $175 million contract. This is the third time Carter has been placed on the injured list this season, a setback for the young outfielder, who had a spectacular debut at the end of the 2023 season, contributing to the Rangers winning their first World Series title.

“We are disappointed for him and for us. He was playing very well. He was doing very good things,” added Bochy.

Carter had already been out of action due to a strain in his right quadriceps and back spasms on two previous occasions this season. In 63 games this season, Carter hit .247 with five home runs, 25 RBIs, and 14 stolen bases. His Major League debut was on September 23, 2023, where he batted .306 with five home runs and 12 RBIs in 23 games to finish the season. The left fielder reached base in all 17 Rangers postseason games, batting .300 with a record nine doubles in the MLB postseason.
