Baltimore Orioles
Pre-season system ranking: 14th ($207 million)
What you should know: George made the biggest jump after being ranked 195th before last year’s draft, where he signed for $455,000, the 160th highest bonus. Forty-seven players who were ranked above him didn’t sign, so I was more or less right on that part, but I didn’t expect him to show strike zone control and power in the game with an OPS of 1.119 at the beginning of his professional debut.Next to debut: Basallo is batting in Triple-A and should debut this season.
Boston Red Sox
System ranking before the season: 4th ($278 million)
What you should know: Kristian Campbell graduated from this list, opening a spot for Tolle, whom I broke down recently. Anthony and Mayer are very high on my updated top 50 prospects list, and Anthony should join Mayer in the big leagues soon (*crosses fingers*). All the pitchers on the list are improving, which is encouraging.
Next to debut: *cough* Anthony.
New York Yankees
System ranking before the season: 21st ($166 million)
What you should know: Will Warren graduated since the last update. This system really declines after Lombard. There are many guys with one or two standout skills who aren’t finished products, and 10 more who could be added. I wanted to add Griffin Herring, but he landed at No. 11, just ahead of Chase Hampton, who will miss the season due to elbow surgery.Next to debut: Vivas made his debut in the major leagues a few weeks ago, and Jones and Schlittler are in Double-A, but they must be added to the 40-man roster this winter. Both seem likely to be promoted to Triple-A soon and then perhaps to the major leagues in September.
Tampa Bay Rays
System ranking before the season: 5th ($270 million)
What you should know: There are many position players with outstanding tools, so I guess in a few years, a third of the Rays would have been on this list. Gillen is on the rise after entering the first round last year and transitioning to the outfield. The next 10 players are also quite good, with 1B Tre Morgan and 3B Cooper Kinney among my favorites.
Next to debut: Williams is regressing in Triple-A after appearing on track to debut in late 2025 or early 2026. He is the most likely on this list to move up this season because Simpson has already debuted.
Toronto Blue Jays
System ranking before the season: 24th ($151 million)
What you should know: Nimmala, Yesavage, Stephen, and King (I have video analysis on King and Yesavage) are on the rise, which is a good indication of how Toronto recruited in the last two years.
Second baseman Orelvis Martinez fell to the 11th spot after a rather mediocre start to the season, increasing the odds of him being a one-tool utility player with great power. Tiedemann and Bloss are out after undergoing elbow surgery, Rojas just returned to the mound, Kasevich returned to the field a few weeks ago, and Barriera is set to return from surgery soon.
Next to debut: Roden had a brief stint in the majors this year, and Bloss and Martinez had theirs last year. Tiedemann would have had his now if he were healthy. Those recent draftees are on track to get a look as soon as next season, so Kasevich becomes the default answer because he should head to Triple-A soon.
AL Central
Chicago White Sox
System ranking before the season: 2nd ($313 million)
What you should know: He gets a little lost behind Schultz and Smith, but I believe in Taylor. Even if he doesn’t improve his command to be an 180-inning starter, he could still be a closer. Edgar Quero just graduated, and Meidroth should graduate in a week or so.Next to debut: Teel, hitting well in Triple-A, seems closer to being ready than Schultz, Smith, or Taylor.
Cleveland Guardians
System ranking before the season: 11th ($213 million)
What you should know: This is a very deep system, although there’s a drop-off around the 10th or 12th spot. Genao’s shoulder injury delayed his debut, Chourio just returned from his shoulder issue, and DeLauter is constantly injured. Doughty is on the rise as a popular projection pick from last year’s draft.
Next to debut: Bazzana seems likely to reach the majors late this year or early next season, but Messick and Kayfus are in Triple-A and should appear first.
Detroit Tigers
System ranking before the season: 3rd ($298 million)
What you should know: Jackson Jobe and Jace Jung graduated after the May update, and I noticed then that Brant Hurter, Dillon Dingler, and Trey Sweeney had already graduated. Rainer continues his excellent start in professional baseball, joining Clark and McGonigle as the impressive young position players in the system.Next to debut: Smith has just been called up, but hasn’t debuted yet. Lee is in Triple-A, and Melton and Anderson are in Double-A, so I’ll lean towards Lee.
Kansas City Royals
System ranking before the season: 22nd ($163 million)
What you should know: This system isn’t so good after the first handful of guys, with a number of players who haven’t yet turned tools into reality. The pitcher, catcher, and first base look like they’ll be ready for a while at the big league level, along with the shortstop, obviously, but there are some holes to fill.
Next to debut: *cough* Cags. And he’s getting the call now!
Minnesota Twins
System ranking before the season: 6th ($257 million)
What you should know: Soto, Prielipp, and Hill are progressing this year and seem to be heading to the Twins’ rotation in the coming years. I liked Diaw and Schobel before the year and they have taken great strides forward this season. It could also be argued that shortstop Kyle DeBarge, who came in at number 11, should be on this list.
Next to debut: Rodriguez gets injured a lot, but he’s in Triple-A doing the usual: low average, incredibly high walk rate, power, and solid defense in center field. Prielipp, who could appear for short stints, should be added to the 40-man roster this winter.
To the West
Athletics
System ranking before the season: 23rd ($160 million)
What you should know: The results of LSU’s 2024 Jump and White teammates remain solid. Morris has been good, and Clarke made his big league debut, showcasing his great tools and excellent glove.
Next to debut: Half of this list has already debuted, but Jump is cutting the minors like hot butter, so it could be next.
Houston Astros
Pre-season system ranking: 30th ($104 million)
What you should know: Cam Smith and Zach Dezenzo graduated since the last update, and Powell burst onto the scene. He was a little-known sophomore college prospect with huge measurable tools who has been quite good this year, while showcasing those tools: easy plus speed and power, maybe even plus-plus.
Next to debut: Melton, who is 24 and still hitting in Triple-A, should get a look soon.
Los Angeles Angels
System ranking before the season: 28th ($129 million)
What you should know: Johnson has been a pleasant surprise, despite his effectiveness in the major leagues, and Moore is not doing enough damage or making enough contact to maintain his profile in the upper leagues now.Next to debut: Klassen, Moore, Cortez, and Aldegheri are not conventionally ready on paper. However, they have big-league potential, are already playing in the upper leagues, and the Angels are aggressive with promotions.
Seattle Mariners
System ranking before the season: 7th ($241 million)
What you should know: Teddy McGraw is back on the mound with his great raw stuff, and he’s worth monitoring even though he’s 23 with fewer than 15 professional innings. Sloan has been a pleasant development, Celesten has been okay, and Peete has been a bit disappointing.Next to debut: Logan Evans is number 11 and made his debut this year. Young has also just been called up along with 3B Ben Williamson, ranked 12th. Ford is in Triple-A and also has the opportunity to debut later this season, as does Double-A LHP Brandyn Garcia (ranked 13th).Texas Rangers
System ranking before the season: 16th ($192 million)
What you should know: Rocker has made two rehab appearances since his shoulder issues, and Jack Leiter graduated from last month’s update. Rosario is out for the season due to elbow surgery. Scarborough wasn’t well-known outside of a Central Florida high school before the 2023 draft, but he’s a big breakout player. Fitz-Gerald was an overpay from a South Florida high school in 2024 with a profile like Dodgers IF Max Muncy.Next to debut: Osuna recently made his debut in the major leagues, so, if he’s healthy, Santos is the clear answer, but he’s only made two appearances after starting the season with a back issue. Drake, who is playing in Double-A, should be added to the 40-man roster this winter.
NL East
Atlanta Braves
System ranking before the season: 27th ($133 million)
What you should know: Receiver Drake Baldwin graduated, while pitchers Caminiti, Fuentes, and Ritchie are all on the rise near the top of the list (and in contention for the Top 100). Hernandez, a fourth-round pick in 2024, is at the end of the top 10. Meanwhile, Alvarez and Murphy haven’t played this year due to injury, and Tornes is waiting for the Dominican Summer League to start in June.Next to debut: Alvarez debuted last year, but will likely get a look once healthy. Waldrep also debuted last year and could get another promotion as a velocity-change-focused relief arm.
Miami Marlins
Pre-season system ranking: 15th ($197 million)
What you should know: Ramirez and Snelling have been rising through the upper parts of the system, and Salas and Johnson have been rising through the lower minors. I delved deeper into Salas, the younger brother of Padres catcher Ethan Salas, in this breakdown, and Johnson, a second-round pick last summer, is showing additional left-handed power in his first full season in the minors.
Next to debut: Snelling should be promoted to Triple-A soon to prepare for a big league debut in the second half of the season. Marsee and Acosta (on the 40-man roster) are hitting well in Triple-A, so they are more likely to get the call first.
New York Mets
System ranking before the season: 9th ($222 million)
What you should know: Tong is clearly on the rise this spring, along with Ewing and two position players showing more power this year who didn’t make the list: 3B Jacob Reimer and OF Eli Serrano.
Next to debut: Mauricio is in Triple-A, recovering from a torn ACL, and it seems he could be a factor in the big leagues soon, although he had a 26-game season in 2023. Gilbert is also playing well in Triple-A.Philadelphia Phillies
System ranking before the season: 17th ($188 million)
What you should know: Tait’s exit velocities are grade 80 this season, and Escobar, Mendez, and Moore have been on the rise in various grades.
Next to debut: Abel has debuted, and Painter seems likely to get a chance this year, though exclusively in a starting role.
Washington Nationals
System ranking before the season: 12th ($212 million)
What you should know: Susana, House, Dickerson, and Sykora are almost tied at the top of the system. Dickerson is the new name here (I delved into him in this video) who reminds me of Wyatt Langford as a hitter. Dickerson was underestimated in the draft because he came late with a hockey background.
Next to debut: Hassell and Lile have just debuted. House is hitting well in Triple-A and will need to be added to the 40-man roster this winter, so he seems to be next.
NL Central
Chicago Cubs
System ranking before the season: 10th ($215 million)
What you should know: Hernandez was a highly touted international signing who is changing course, with raw power as his calling card. Keep an eye on OF Eli Lovich, a prep draft pick from last year, as a rising prospect further down the list.Next to debut: The first four have already debuted, and Long and Caissie seem to be next if there’s a need for a hitter.
