Kerry Carpenter Hits Three Home Runs in Tigers’ Blowout Victory

On a historic night for the Detroit Tigers, Kerry Carpenter showcased his power by hitting three home runs against the Chicago White Sox, leading his team to a resounding victory.

Carpenter became the first Tigers player to achieve this feat since Victor Martinez did it in 2016. The Tigers’ offense was relentless, accumulating a total of five home runs in the game, culminating in a 13-1 victory against the last-place team in the American League Central Division.

My swing, my timing was good. There was a lot of confidence in my swing. That’s why things like tonight happen.

Carpenter, 27, hit his home runs in his second, third, and fourth at-bats, after striking out in the second inning. He admitted that this was the first time he has managed to hit three home runs in a game, at any level of baseball. In his last at-bat, he tried to hit his fourth home run, but was out to center field.

I was trying. I was confident. I was trying to get a good pitch to hit. He threw a good one, but I was trying.

According to collected data, Carpenter joins Miguel Cabrera (2013) and J.D. Martinez (2015) as the only Tigers players in the last two decades to achieve three home runs and five RBIs in the same game.

Carpenter is the seventh player this season to hit three home runs in a game and the third to achieve it in the first six innings. In the four games against Chicago this season, he has hit six home runs, while in 52 games against other teams, he has hit seven.

Those are special nights. I don’t know how often someone sees something like that, but when he gets good pitches to hit, he’s as dangerous as anyone. It was nice to see him connect.

The Tigers’ offensive didn’t stop with Carpenter’s home runs. Parker Meadows, in his season debut after recovering from an arm injury, had two hits, including a double and a triple, scoring three runs. A total of ten different Tigers players managed to get hits in the game. The Detroit defense also shone, with standout plays including a diving catch in left field by Riley Greene, a spectacular stop by shortstop Javier Báez, and a memorable sequence in which catcher Dillon Dingler attempted to catch a foul fly ball by White Sox right fielder Joshua Palacios.

I’m not sure McKinstry had it until he looked down. A heads-up play and a big out. In a game full of fun things, that was one of them.
