F1: Monaco Grand Prix Extends Contract Until 2035
Lando Norris was the winner of this year’s race in Monaco. Formula 1 has confirmed the extension of the famous Monaco Grand Prix until the year 2035. The Monaco street circuit, which winds around the harbor of Monte Carlo, is considered one of the most iconic in F1. After years of uncertainty about its future, the Grand Prix was extended until 2031 in November, and now F1 has agreed to four additional years with the circuit. The Principality’s agreement is now one of the longest on the current calendar; only those of Madrid (2035), Bahrain (2036), Australia (2037), and Miami and Austria (both 2041) have more extensive agreements. This year’s Monaco race included a new rule of two mandatory pit stops, in an attempt to liven up the show, although the race under that new rule was criticized by both the drivers and the fans. F1 and Monaco organizers have been under increasing pressure to modify the circuit in order to open up overtaking opportunities, as the large F1 cars and the narrow streets of Monte Carlo often combine to make a processional grand prix. It remains to be seen if that will happen; Friday’s announcement made no mention of any commitment to consider the possibility of modifying the existing route.

The streets of Monaco have echoed with the sound of Formula 1 since the early days of this sport. Therefore, I am pleased to announce the extension of this fantastic event until 2035.

Stefano Domenicali, head of F1
It’s an iconic race that is loved by all drivers and fans, with a unique atmosphere thanks to its location in the most glamorous Principality in the world.
