Oscar Collazo Retains World Titles in a Controversial Victory
Puerto Rican boxer Oscar Collazo successfully defended his WBO and WBA light flyweight titles on Saturday, achieving a stoppage in the seventh round against Jayson Vayson. The decision by Vayson’s team to stop the fight generated controversy. The fight remained competitive until the moment of the interruption. Vayson, showing an aggressive attitude, sought to counter Collazo, despite having been knocked down in the first round after a left hook. Vayson managed to recover and focused his attacks on Collazo’s body in the fourth round. Collazo responded with combinations, taking Vayson to the ropes during the sixth and seventh rounds. Despite the intense action, the Vayson team requested the stoppage of the fight, even though the boxer did not appear to be in obvious danger.Collazo, who represents Puerto Rico, added his third consecutive victory by stoppage. The champion has held his title since 2023, when he conquered the WBO title after defeating Melvin Jerusalem in May of that year.
