Águilas Cibaeñas and Leones del Escogido: Early Opening Game
The expected inaugural Round Robin encounter between the Águilas Cibaeñas and the Leones del Escogido has undergone a modification in its schedule. The game, which was scheduled for this Saturday, will be moved up to 5:00 in the afternoon at the Cibao Stadium.
This schedule change, originally set for 6:00 p.m., was agreed upon between both teams and the LIDOM. The main objective is to avoid any overlap with an artistic event that will take place at the Arena del Cibao Dr. Óscar Gobaira.
Given the proximity of both facilities and the shared use of parking areas, moving the game forward will allow for better management of vehicle exits and, therefore, greater comfort for the fans present.
The Águilas Cibaeñas reach this semifinal phase after an outstanding performance in the regular season, where they positioned themselves in first place with a record of 32-17. For their part, the Leones del Escogido secured their place in fourth position, recording a mark of 23-27.
For this crucial encounter, manager Luis “Pipe” Urueta has designated Jorge Tavárez as the starting pitcher. Tavárez was a key piece in the Águilas’ pitching staff during the regular season.
Tavárez demonstrated his worth with a 4-1 record, a 1.49 ERA, and a 0.90 WHIP. In eight appearances, seven of them as a starter, he pitched 36.0 innings, allowing 24 hits, six earned runs, nine walks, and striking out 27 batters.
The Cibao team will have the reinforcement of six players acquired in the Re-entry Draft: Cristhian Adames, Óscar De la Cruz, Misael Tamarez, Yunior Marte, Carlos Belén and Andrew Pérez. These players will strengthen the team for this demanding semifinal stage.
