Neymar, out of the fields due to COVID-19
Brazilian forward Neymar is out of action after testing positive for COVID-19, according to a statement from his club Santos.
The 33-year-old player began showing symptoms on Thursday and was immediately removed from team activities. Medical tests later confirmed the viral infection, the Brazilian Serie A team reported on Saturday.
The club did not reveal how long Neymar will be out of action. Neymar is already ruled out of Thursday’s league match against Fortaleza due to a suspension.
The match against Fortaleza will be Santos’ last before the Brazilian league pauses for the Club World Cup, which will be held in the United States from June 14 to July 13.
The future of the former Barcelona striker at Santos remains undecided, as his contract expires on June 30. Limited by injuries, he has participated in 12 matches with Santos in all competitions this season, contributing three goals and three assists.
