Adverse Weather Halts Second Round of LPGA NW Arkansas Championship

ROGERS, Ark. – Heavy rain and dangerous weather conditions forced the LPGA Tour to suspend the second round of the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship on Saturday, before the golfers even began. This raises uncertainty about the possibility of completing the event in its entirety.

This tournament, which is already the shortest on the calendar with 54 holes, could face a long day or a prolonged wait.

Due to the rain, no player completed more than three holes. The LPGA announced that it will determine on Sunday morning if Pinnacle Country Club is playable, and then the second round will resume at 7:10 a.m. CDT.

Sarah Schmelzel and Minami Katsu were tied for the lead at 8 under par. Alison Lee, in her third tournament since returning after giving birth to her son at the end of April, made a birdie and joined them at 8 under par before play was stopped.

The LPGA will decide before the second round resumes whether the tournament will be reduced to 36 holes or if it will try to complete the scheduled 54 holes. The LPGA has no events next week.

Stacy Lewis had the best score at the inaugural tournament in 2007, when she was an amateur, but rain reduced the event to 18 holes and it was not considered official.
