Dustin Wolf Secures His Future with the Flames: Multi-Year Extension
The Calgary Flames have secured the continuity of their talented goaltender, Dustin Wolf, with a 7-year contract extension, as announced by the team on Tuesday. The agreement, which will come into effect from the 2026-27 season, has an average annual value of $7.5 million, affecting the salary cap. Wolf still has one year remaining on his current 2-year, $1.7 million contract, signed in July 2024. At 24 years old, Wolf earned this considerable salary increase thanks to an outstanding season with the Flames. He established himself as the long-term starting goaltender, with a record of 29-16-8 in 53 games, showing a save percentage of .910 and a goals-against average of 2.64. Wolf’s rise to the starting position came after the transfer of veteran Jacob Markstrom to the New Jersey Devils in June 2024. Although he participated in 17 games during the 2023-24 season, Wolf was technically a rookie last season. He finished second in the Calder Trophy voting, surpassed by Montreal Canadiens defenseman Lane Hutson. Wolf was selected 214th overall in the 2019 NHL draft. Only three players were picked in a lower position in the seventh round. One of the reasons he was selected so late was his height, measuring 6 feet tall, a few inches shorter than many NHL goalies.I have always been underestimated throughout my career, largely due to my height. And I think that’s a blessing in disguise, because that way you can get on with your work.
