Alcaraz advances in the US Open with a convincing victory

New York – Carlos Alcaraz, the world number two, continues his path at the US Open after a solid victory in the second round. The Spanish tennis player, who recently opted for a haircut, demonstrated his superiority on the court. Alcaraz defeated Mattia Bellucci of Italy, number 65 in the ranking, with partials of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-3 in a match that lasted just over an hour and a half at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The Spaniard did not face any break opportunities and dominated with 32 winners against his opponent’s 11. This performance contrasts with his performance in the second round of Flushing Meadows in 2024. Alcaraz, who won his first Grand Slam title at the 2022 US Open, commented on his performance.

“I played great, to be honest. Today wasn’t his day. I tried to make the most of his mistakes”.

Alcaraz has won all his service games in the first two rounds at Flushing Meadows and has accumulated 32 consecutive games holding his serve, counting from the Cincinnati Open semifinals. This victory represents Alcaraz’s 79th triumph in a Grand Slam, in his 19th appearance in a tournament of this category. In the Open era, only John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg and Rafael Nadal achieved more victories in their first 19 major participations.
