Sergio Vargas raises his voice against the growing wave of youth violence in the Dominican Republic
Renowned merengue artist Sergio Vargas has expressed his deep concern regarding the alarming increase in criminal acts committed by young people in the country. Through a reflection published on his digital platforms, the artist made an urgent call for collective awareness in the face of a reality he described as painful and worrying.
The interpreter of “La ventanita” deeply lamented how the loss of human lives and family disintegration have become daily news. According to Vargas, Dominican society is facing a crisis of values where life seems to have lost its fundamental meaning.
What is happening to us as a society? These last few days have left us with images and news that hurt deeply. Young people turning themselves in to the authorities. Others who have lost their lives in the midst of violent events. Families who are mourning today. And, meanwhile, other young people continue to take the path of crime as if life had no value.

A call for shared responsibility
For the artist, the problem of insecurity cannot be addressed solely through police persecution. Vargas emphasized that there is a shared responsibility that involves all sectors of the nation:
- Families, as the primary core of development.
- Educational institutions and their role in teaching values.
- Communities and authorities, which must work on prevention.
The singer was emphatic in pointing out that, although economic needs do not justify criminality, prevention must become a national priority. “Watch out for that,” the merengue artist warned regarding the urgency of attending to the youth before the path of delinquency becomes their only option.
Solidarity in times of crisis
In his message, Sergio Vargas dedicated words of comfort to Julián, who is going through a moment of personal grief due to violence. The artist urged the public not to allow these events to become mere headlines that are forgotten as the days go by.
Finally, Vargas concluded his reflection with a hopeful message, highlighting that every young person rescued from crime represents a victory for the country’s future, saving not only a life, but also an entire family and the future of the nation.
