Surprise Move in the NFL: John Metchie III to the Eagles
The Houston Texans have finalized a trade that sends wide receiver John Metchie III to the Philadelphia Eagles. The news, which has shaken the world of American football, was confirmed this Sunday.
In exchange for Metchie III and a sixth-round pick, the Texans will receive tight end Harrison Bryant and a fifth-round pick. This move comes after Brevin Jordan’s knee injury, which forced the Texans to reinforce their tight end position.
Metchie, who is about to start his fourth season in the NFL, has 40 receptions, 412 yards and a touchdown in 29 games. It is important to remember that he missed his rookie season due to leukemia treatment, after being selected by the Texans in the second round of the 2022 draft.
In the current preseason, Metchie leads the Texans’ receivers with 53 receiving yards on six receptions. However, his position on the team’s depth chart was, at best, that of fifth wide receiver, behind veterans like Nico Collins and Christian Kirk, as well as rookies Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel.
In Philadelphia, Metchie will join a group of star receivers led by A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, along with Jahan Dotson and Johnny Wilson. Smith and Metchie were teammates at Alabama, where they won the national championship in 2020.
The arrival of Metchie seeks to further strengthen the Eagles’ receiving corps, bringing a different set of skills than other players on the roster.
For his part, Harrison Bryant, who is in his sixth season in the NFL, has recorded 98 receptions, 877 yards, and 10 touchdowns throughout his career.
