NBC and USGA Extend Their Broadcast Agreement Through 2032
The USGA has renewed its agreement with NBCUniversal for the coverage of the U.S. Open, ensuring the broadcast of the prestigious tournament until the year 2032. This agreement, announced on Tuesday, will also include an additional hour of primetime coverage during the weekdays of the championship.
The relationship between NBC and the USGA dates back to 1995. Although there was a hiatus in 2015 when Fox Sports took over the broadcast for a 12-year agreement, this only lasted five years before NBC resumed coverage.
NBC will maintain exclusive broadcast rights for the three USGA professional events: the U.S. Open, the U.S. Women’s Open, and the U.S. Senior Open. In addition, the Peacock platform will broadcast all USGA programming aired on NBC, and will have exclusive coverage of the U.S. Open and the U.S. Women’s Open.
The new agreement guarantees extensive coverage of the U.S. Open, with a total of 48 hours of broadcast. Of these, 25 hours will be broadcast on NBC, and will extend to 33 hours when the U.S. Open is held on the West Coast. The U.S. Women’s Open will have 27 hours of coverage, including 7 hours on NBC during the weekend. The U.S. Senior Open will have 18 hours of broadcast, with 6 hours on NBC.
Versant, the new media company that will be spun off from Comcast Corp., acquired the broadcast rights to the USGA championships for USA Network and Golf Channel through 2032. USA Network will broadcast the U.S. Open and the U.S. Women’s Open, while the other nine USGA championships will air on Golf Channel.
