Josh Hader to the Injured List: Astros Lose Their Star Closer

Houston Astros All-Star closer Josh Hader was placed on the 15-day injured list due to a left shoulder strain.

The lefty was unavailable on Monday night after experiencing shoulder discomfort. Manager Joe Espada stated after Houston’s victory over the Red Sox that Hader “simply didn’t feel right” after a workout on Monday, so the Astros sent him for tests.

The measure of the injured list is retroactive to Monday.

In his second season in Houston, Hader has a 6-2 record with a 2.05 ERA and is tied for third in the Major Leagues with 28 saves in 48 appearances this season.

In addition, the Astros reinstated right-handed pitcher Shawn Dubin from the 15-day injured list, called up left-handed pitcher Colton Gordon from Triple-A, and designated right-handed pitcher Héctor Neris for assignment.
