Charlie Woods Shoots at the Junior PGA Championship

Charlie Woods, son of golf legend Tiger Woods, had an outstanding performance at the Junior PGA Championship, climbing positions with an impressive round of 66 strokes, six under par, on the second day held in West Lafayette, Indiana.

After registering 70 strokes in the first round at the Kampen-Cosler Course, Woods demonstrated his skill by getting birdies on six of his first eight holes on Wednesday. This streak led him to complete the first part of the course in 31 strokes, five under par.

In the second half of the field, Woods continued his good game, achieving birdies in three of the first six holes, reaching a total of nine under par in the tournament. Although he then suffered two consecutive bogeys, which set him back to seven under par.

Currently, Woods is seven strokes behind the leader, Lunden Esterline, who is already committed to Auburn University for 2027. Max VanderMolen and Chase Yenser share second place at nine under par, with 36 holes remaining to play.

At 16, Woods failed to qualify for the match play rounds at last week’s U.S. Junior Amateur Championship in Dallas. Now, his goal is to secure one of the two automatic spots on the Junior Ryder Cup team, which will be awarded to the top two players this week. There is also the possibility of a captain’s pick, although the odds of Woods being chosen are low.

High school student at The Benjamin School in Palm Beach, Florida, Woods won the AJGA’s Team TaylorMade Invitational in May. He has not yet made a decision on his college commitment.
