Advances in the investigation into the murder of Spanish student Claudia Tacoronte in Mexico
The Morelos Prosecutor’s Office has revealed new details regarding the tragic death of Claudia Tacoronte, the 21-year-old Spanish student who lost her life after being attacked on September 12 in the city of Cuautla. According to authorities, the main suspect in the crime allegedly stole the young woman’s cell phone, which has become one of the central lines of investigation in the case.
Suspect identification
The Morelos prosecutor, Fernando Blumenkron, confirmed that the investigations have made it possible to fully identify the alleged perpetrator, who goes by the name Francisco Javier, known by the alias “El Trompas.” After establishing his identity, a national search and capture warrant has been issued.
To achieve this breakthrough, the researchers relied on several key tools:
- Analysis of video surveillance camera recordings.
- Reviews of videos captured by third-party mobile devices.
- Information gathered through citizen collaboration.
Currently, there is a coordinated operation between state and federal forces to locate the fugitive, carrying out inspections at various addresses linked to the suspect.
Context of the tragedy
Claudia Tacoronte, originally from the Canary Islands, was in Mexico completing an academic exchange between the University of Granada and the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos (UAEM). On the day of the attack, the young woman was in Cuautla to attend the National Fair of Traditional Medicine when she was assaulted with a bladed weapon.
The Prosecutor’s Office continues to work to clarify the motive for the crime, without it having been determined with certainty so far whether the attack was motivated by gender-based reasons or if there are other factors behind the femicide.
This unfortunate event has generated a wave of indignation and protests from the UAEM student community, as the Tacoronte case adds to a worrying list of female students from said institution who have been victims of violence in recent months, raising alarms about security in the region.
