Uncertainty for the Yankees: Aaron Judge in doubt for the start of the postseason
The New York Yankees face a complex outlook heading into the most important stage of the season. Their captain, Aaron Judge, has a moderate-grade strain in his right calf that puts his participation in the start of the playoffs at risk, as confirmed by manager Aaron Boone.
The New York organization is handling the star slugger’s situation with caution. Although Boone did not completely rule out an early return, he admitted that the current plan is to move forward without counting on him for the opening series, specifically in the face of a possible confrontation with the Boston Red Sox.

Recovery details
Judge, who was placed on the 10-day injured list retroactive to September 17, recently underwent a platelet-rich plasma injection. The treatment seeks to accelerate the recovery of the soleus muscle, a key area for the power of his swing and his mobility on the field.
- The player is prohibited from performing impact activities such as running or jumping in the short term.
- A grade 2 injury in this area usually requires a rehabilitation period of between three and six weeks.
- The slugger has stated that, unlike previous discomfort, this soleus condition significantly compromises his playing mechanics.
A year marked by injuries
The 2024 season has been a constant challenge for the Yankees captain. After recovering from a right rib fracture, Judge was barely able to see action in seven games during September. In his 66 games played this year, the outfielder posted a .241 batting average, with 18 home runs and 41 runs batted in.
Despite the absence of their main figure, the team maintains its focus on its championship aspirations. Boone appeared confident in the group’s ability to overcome, recalling that the roster has had to adapt to playing without key pieces for much of the regular schedule.
Roster moves
While Judge’s situation remains under medical observation, the Yankees are working on other areas. Infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. is scheduled to return to the roster during this Tuesday’s doubleheader. On the other hand, right-handed pitcher Clarke Schmidt is under evaluation after experiencing discomfort in his right bicep during his warm-up in Phoenix, with his availability for upcoming games still pending.
