Devin Booker Secures His Future with the Suns: Million-Dollar Extension and Consolidated Leadership
Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker has reached an agreement to extend his contract, ensuring his stay with the team for two more years and a value of $145 million. This extension positions him as the player with the highest average annual salary in NBA history, with an impressive figure of 72.5 million per season.
The agreement was finalized between Booker and Suns owner Mat Ishbia on Wednesday night in Las Vegas, demonstrating the mutual commitment to take the franchise to the top of professional basketball. With this extension, Booker’s total contract with the team amounts to five years and $316 million. Booker arrived at the Suns in 2015, being selected as number 13 in the Draft.
At 28 years old, Booker has left a significant mark on the league. He has been selected four times for the All-Star, twice for the All-NBA, and has won two Olympic gold medals representing the United States.
In the past season, Booker became the franchise’s all-time leading scorer. His averages were 25.6 points, 7.1 assists (his personal best) and 4.1 rebounds per game.
With this extension, Booker surpasses the current league MVP, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, in average salary.
Beyond his performance on the court, Booker has proven to be an influential voice in the direction of the team. He actively participated in the selection of the new head coach and supported the hiring of Jordan Ott.
Despite their leadership, the Suns finished last season with a 36-46 record, missing the playoffs. This situation led to a restructuring of the team, including the departure of Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets.
Booker has publicly expressed his desire to play his entire career in Phoenix and lead the franchise to its first title. The extension reinforces this mission and establishes him as one of the most committed and valuable players in current basketball.
