The Czech tennis player Katerina Siniakova added a new title to her impressive record by winning the mixed doubles tournament at Wimbledon alongside Sem Verbeek.
In an exciting final played on Thursday, Siniakova and Verbeek defeated the pair formed by Luisa Stefani and Joe Salisbury with a score of 7-6 (3), 7-6 (3).
Siniakova, already with ten Grand Slam titles in women’s doubles, demonstrated her quality on the court, sealing the victory with a powerful smash on the first match point.This triumph represents the first Grand Slam title for Verbeek, who celebrated with the public by singing “Happy Birthday To You” to his father.
In addition to her doubles successes, Siniakova is a double Olympic champion. She won gold in mixed doubles at the Paris Games last year, and also won gold in women’s doubles at the Tokyo 2021 Games alongside Barbora Krejcikova.
Of Siniakova’s ten Grand Slam titles in women’s doubles, seven were with Krejcikova, two with Taylor Townsend, and one with Coco Gauff at the French Open last year.
