LIDOM celebrates the 2026 Tano Martino Rookie Draft this Wednesday
The Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) is preparing for one of the most anticipated events of the winter calendar: the 2026 Tano Martino Rookie Draft. The event, designed to strengthen the structures of the circuit’s six franchises, will take place this Wednesday, September 9, at Sambil Santo Domingo.
The league president, Dr. Vitelio Mejía Ortiz, confirmed that the event will begin at 8:00 p.m. Fans will be able to follow all the developments of the talent selection through the official digital platforms of LIDOM TV and the specialized broadcasts of CDN Deportes.
Selection process details
A total of 99 prospects have been cleared to be selected by the Tigres del Licey, Estrellas Orientales, Leones del Escogido, Gigantes del Cibao, Toros del Este, and Águilas Cibaeñas. The selection order follows the traditional format based on the 2025-26 championship regular season standings, giving selection priority to the teams that finished in the lowest positions.
However, the original configuration of the rounds has undergone modifications due to various market movements between the organizations:
- Los Gigantes del Cibao traded their fourth-round pick to the Leones del Escogido.
- The Toros del Este transferred their sixth-round selection to the Águilas Cibaeñas.
- The Leones del Escogido gave up their ninth-round turn to the Águilas Cibaeñas.
The Draft constitutes a fundamental tool for LIDOM franchises, as it allows them to incorporate young players from different levels of organized baseball into their reserves, strengthening their rosters for the future.
For the 99 young prospects, tonight represents a crucial milestone in their professional careers, marking the beginning of their journey within Dominican winter baseball. The organizations, for their part, remain focused on capturing the necessary talent to ensure competitiveness and generational renewal in the league.
