Sandy Alcántara is immortalized on the Miami Marlins wall of legends

Star Dominican pitcher Sandy Alcántara was the subject of an emotional recognition by the Miami Marlins, as he was officially inducted into the wall of leaders located on the Legends Level at loanDepot park. This tribute highlights his historic impact on the franchise and solidifies his position as one of the most dominant pitchers to have worn the team’s uniform.

The right-hander, who has been a fundamental pillar since his arrival to the organization in 2018, reached statistical milestones that position him at the top of the club’s records. Currently, Alcántara holds the franchise’s all-time lead in strikeouts with 1,058 and in innings pitched with a total of 1,250.2, surpassing the previous marks set by Ricky Nolasco.

A legacy built at loanDepot park

In addition to his global records, the Dominican has been strong at home, accumulating 30 wins at loanDepot park, the highest figure for any pitcher in the history of the Little Havana stadium. During the recent series against the Red Sox, he also equaled Nolasco’s 197 starts, tying another mark of longevity and consistency.

As soon as I arrived and saw myself there on the wall, I was about to cry, because I think it’s an incredible memory for me. Time flies. When they put the video on the screen, the first face I saw was my face from 2018: skinny, with a baby face.

Reflection on eight seasons of dedication

The tribute coincided with the Dominican Republic Heritage celebration, where the organization projected a visual recount of Alcántara’s evolution. The pitcher expressed his gratitude for the personal and professional growth experienced since his debut at 21 years old. Recalling his beginnings, the athlete acknowledged the transformation he has lived through during his eight seasons with the team.

Looking to the future, the Dominican remains optimistic about what is to come. With a club option for 2027, Alcántara left open the possibility of continuing to extend his dominance on the Marlins’ mound.

If I stay here for a couple more years, maybe I’ll break all the records.
