Ángelo Vásquez distances himself from political confrontations and highlights Santiago Matías’ career

Aspiring politician Ángelo Vásquez has reaffirmed his intention to enter the country’s public life with the main objective of offering concrete solutions to the problems affecting the Dominican Republic. In his recent statements, Vásquez emphasized that his project does not seek conflict with other emerging leaders, including businessman and media figure Santiago Matías.

During his appearance on an interview program, Vásquez was asked how he plans to differentiate his political proposal from the one that the CEO of Alofoke Media Group has begun to develop. In response, the candidate defined himself as a citizen committed to the national well-being, whose purpose is to contribute positive efforts for the country’s development.

I am a simple Dominican who thinks that the Dominican Republic needs Dominican solutions and who only wants to contribute his grain of sand to his country.

Assessment of Santiago Matías

Regarding Santiago Matías, Vásquez showed a stance of respect and recognition toward his management ability and business vision. He pointed out that there is a tendency to underestimate Matías, despite the evident results he has managed to consolidate throughout his career.

  • Vásquez highlighted that the success achieved by Matías is proof of his intelligence and strategy.
  • He confirmed that he maintains a friendship and fluid communication with the businessman.
  • He rejected the idea that new political actors should confront each other.

A call for the unity of emerging leaders

When questioned about other personalities who have shown interest in the political sphere, such as Yadira Marte and Ramfis Domínguez Trujillo, the candidate was emphatic that the energy of new leaderships must be focused on the structural challenges of the State and not on internal disputes.

“Here we have to face, not each other. We must have vision. Against whom do we fight? Against those who govern”, pointed out Vásquez, making it clear that his focus is high-level debate against traditional government administrations.

This positioning occurs at a time when the Dominican political landscape is experiencing the emergence of figures outside of conventional party structures, who seek to capture the attention of an electorate that demands new ways of doing politics in the country.
