Maiquetía International Airport resumes commercial flights after the earthquakes
Maiquetía International Airport, the most important air terminal in Venezuela and the main gateway to Caracas, has confirmed its return to commercial activities starting next September 1st. This reopening will be carried out through the use of temporary terminals, allowing for the restoration of air connectivity following the closure caused by the earthquakes on June 24th.
The Maiquetía International Airport Institute (IAIM) informed that passengers must contact their airlines directly to manage the rescheduling of their itineraries and obtain precise details regarding the use of these new provisional facilities.
High-quality temporary infrastructure
The new terminals have been designed under strict technological standards to guarantee operability. According to the IAIM, the facility will have the following capacity and services:
- Two terminals enabled for departures and two for arrivals, covering both domestic and international routes.
- Surface area of 4,300 square meters in the international departure terminal.
- Capacity to accommodate 780 people in its waiting rooms.
- Air conditioning services, Wi-Fi connection, waiting areas, charging stations, restrooms, and access for people with reduced mobility.
- Internal transport via buses for passenger transfer between terminals and the operations ramp.
- Parking available for short and long stays.

Background and recovery process
Following the earthquakes in June, air operations were suspended, forcing various airlines to temporarily relocate their services to the cities of Valencia and Barcelona. This displacement posed a significant logistical challenge for Venezuelan travelers due to the land distances to Caracas.
The path toward normalization began on August 5th, when Maiquetía reactivated its cargo operations. This first milestone was fundamental to advancing the recovery of the terminal located in La Guaira state, one of the areas most affected by the seismic movements.
With the reactivation of commercial flights this September 1st, the Maiquetía International Airport consolidates a decisive step in the stabilization of the country’s aeronautical services, marking the beginning of a new stage of connectivity for users.
