Miraculous rescue: Woman and a minor survive after being trapped under a semi-truck in Santiago
A spectacular traffic accident that occurred on the Circunvalación Sur avenue, near the Hoyo de Lima area in Santiago, kept citizens on edge after a collision was recorded between a semi-truck and a scooter on which two people were traveling. Miraculously, both the driver and a minor of approximately 11 years old who was accompanying her managed to survive after the two-wheeled vehicle became trapped under the structure of the heavy transport vehicle.
The incident occurred when, according to preliminary reports, the scooter driver attempted to perform an overtaking maneuver, ending up in the path of the cargo vehicle. Faced with the unexpected situation, the truck driver was forced to brake abruptly, preventing the outcome from being fatal.
I thought it had gone over, but thank God it didn’t. If he hadn’t braked, he would have run him over.
Witnesses of the event on the South Ring Road.
Intervention by the authorities
After the impact, citizens who were in the area quickly mobilized to help the victims and remove the scooter that had become trapped under the vehicle. Shortly after, units from the 9-1-1 National Emergency and Security Attention System arrived at the scene to provide medical assistance to the woman and the minor, who were evaluated at the scene of the accident.
Agents from the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transportation Safety (Digesett) arrived at the area to begin the corresponding investigations. Traffic personnel worked on managing the flow in the area, as the accident caused significant congestion on one of Santiago’s busiest avenues.
This event serves as a vital reminder of the dangers involved in performing risky maneuvers near heavy vehicles on high-traffic roads. The competent authorities continue to analyze the evidence to determine the legal responsibilities derived from the crash.
