Border merchants support Customs management and reject reports of illicit goods
The president of the National Council of Border Businessmen and Merchants, Carlos Morillo, has taken a firm stance regarding recent accusations about the entry of illegal products into the country. The leader completely distanced himself from these allegations, while simultaneously reaffirming his full support for the work carried out by the General Directorate of Customs (DGA).
During a meeting with the press, Morillo highlighted the effectiveness of the security protocols implemented for the transport of goods from Dominican ports to the border zone. According to the businessman, the sector he represents can attest to the transparency of these processes, which are rigorously monitored from their origin.

Control and monitoring in border logistics
To ensure the security of the cargo, the leader explained that containers and heavy cargo vehicles departing from terminals such as the Port of Caucedo are equipped with GPS monitoring systems. This tracking remains active throughout the entire journey until reaching the customs administrations located in Dajabón, Elías Piña, Jimaní, and Pedernales.

Morillo positively assessed the DGA’s performance in the 2020-2026 period, emphasizing that the border commercial sector feels supported by the institution’s actions. Despite the geopolitical and social challenges facing the neighboring country, the businessman assured that commercial activity at the Dominican border continues to operate normally and under the established control standards.
Finally, the merchants’ representative emphasized that there are no links between their members and the irregularities pointed out in the media and social networks, dismissing any accusation that calls into question the legality of the goods circulating under the supervision of the Dominican customs authorities.
