Communicator Aquiles Jiménez has issued a formal apology addressed to journalist Alicia Ortega, her husband Fernando Hasbún, and their entire family unit. This gesture of amends arises as a consequence of a defamation and slander lawsuit filed following various publications and comments made by Jiménez through digital platforms.
Through a public statement, the communicator acknowledged that his previous allegations were “improper and unjustified,” admitting that such actions affected the honor, dignity, and reputation of the couple, both personally and professionally.
I recognize Alicia Ortega and Fernando Hasbún as honorable people, highlighting their respective careers and significant contributions to the practice of journalism, freedom of information, and the strengthening of democracy in Dominican society.
Commitment to rectification
As part of this resolution process, Aquiles Jiménez has committed to refraining from making any further publications or statements that could infringe upon the integrity of those affected. With this retraction, the communicator seeks to put an end to the legal controversy that originated in 2025.
It should be remembered that, in September of that year, the judge of the Seventh Instruction Court of the National District, Deiby Timoteo Peguero, dictated coercive measures against Jiménez, which included the payment of an economic guarantee, a travel ban, and the obligation to appear before the authorities periodically.
This case has been closely followed by the national journalistic sector, as it has brought to the table the debate on the limits of freedom of expression on social media and the responsibility that comes with disseminating content that affects the reputation of third parties.
