Mike Brown, on the Knicks’ radar for the coaching position
Mike Brown is emerging as a strong candidate for the New York Knicks’ head coaching position, according to sources close to the situation. A second meeting between Brown and the Knicks’ management is expected. Brown, 55, was recognized as the NBA Coach of the Year in his first season with the Sacramento Kings in the 2022-23 season. During his time in Sacramento, Brown achieved a record of 107-88 in two seasons, with positive records in his two full seasons before being fired in December, midway through his third season. Previously, Brown had two stints as coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers and one season with the Los Angeles Lakers. His professional career includes a 455-304 record and seven playoff appearances in nine full seasons. In addition, he has been recognized as Coach of the Year twice, also in Cleveland in 2008-09. In 2020, Brown had already interviewed for the Knicks’ coaching position, leaving a good impression before the team hired Tom Thibodeau. Now, Brown seeks to replace Thibodeau. Brown is one of the three candidates who have been interviewed for the Knicks’ coaching position, along with Taylor Jenkins, former coach of the Memphis Grizzlies, and Micah Nori, assistant coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Knicks have also shown interest in James Borrego, former coach of the Charlotte Hornets and current assistant coach of the New Orleans Pelicans. Before the Knicks formally began interviews, several teams rejected New York’s requests to interview their coaches, including the Dallas Mavericks (Jason Kidd), Houston Rockets (Ime Udoka), and Timberwolves (Chris Finch).
