San Pedro de Macorís begins the modernization of its Sports Complex with a multi-million dollar investment
The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, gave the official groundbreaking for the start of the reconstruction and renovation works of the San Pedro de Macorís Sports Complex. This ambitious project has a government investment of RD$274,346,217.05, destined to transform the epicenter of physical activity in the province.
During the event, the head of the sports portfolio highlighted that this project responds to the Government’s vision of strengthening athletic infrastructure throughout the national territory, providing worthy facilities to the future stars of Dominican sports.
President Abinader is honored to make this investment in the historic San Pedro de Macorís Sports Complex, cradle of great legends who have held our nation’s name high throughout history.

Cruz emphasized that this response comes after listening to the demands of the Petromacorisana community, recalling that this province was key in the recent Central American and Caribbean Games by contributing 18 medals. The official assured that, once the works are completed, the impact on the development of hundreds of young athletes will be exponential.
A comprehensive scope of reconstruction
The intervention plan covers a wide range of vital infrastructure for the local sports ecosystem. Among the facilities that will be subject to improvement are:
- Weightlifting, gymnastics, wrestling, and karate pavilions.
- Baseball complex and youth baseball stadium.
- Softball stadium and archery pavilion.
- Open courts and athletics track.
- Olympic Village and perimeter fence of the venue.
Provincial Senator, Aracelis Villanueva, expressed her gratitude for the commitment shown to the youth of the area. “Today San Pedro de Macorís fulfills the dream of seeing how its facilities begin a transformation process that will strengthen our athletes,” she noted.
The event was attended by prominent figures, including Governor Yovanis Baltazar, the Director General of Customs, Nelson Arroyo, deputies Luis Gómez and Carolina Paula, as well as the president of the Provincial Sports Union, Reymundo Gantier, who reaffirmed their support for this initiative that marks a turning point for sports in the Eastern region.
