OMSA suspends special transport services to prioritize urban routes
The Metropolitan Bus Services Operator (OMSA) has made the strategic decision to temporarily suspend the loan of its units for special services, both urban and interurban, which were frequently requested by institutions and individuals. This measure is part of a comprehensive plan for institutional strengthening and resource optimization.
The main objective of this provision is to safeguard the entity’s operational capacity, ensuring that all its technical, human, and financial assets are focused on its essential function: offering an efficient, continuous, and quality public transport service for the Dominican citizenry.
Focus on fleet recovery
The OMSA administration, under the leadership of its executive vice president, Onéximo González, detailed that the vehicle fleet is undergoing a process of deterioration that requires immediate attention. For this reason, a rigorous preventive and corrective maintenance program has been launched to rehabilitate the units that are currently out of circulation.
The decision seeks to avoid inconveniences and annoyances derived from sending bus requests for special activities, allowing the institution to focus on its fundamental mission of guaranteeing the daily transport of users.

Recommendations for users
In light of this suspension, the OMSA has issued a call to social organizations, educational centers, private companies, and the general public who require transportation services for excursions or special activities. The entity suggests hiring the services of duly authorized private companies for this type of transport, thus ensuring that the population’s transportation needs are adequately met.
The role of OMSA in Dominican transport
As a key piece in the public transport system of Greater Santo Domingo and Santiago, OMSA is in a stage of profound transformation. This process not only implies the improvement of its existing units, but also a responsible management of its assets to respond to the high daily demand of thousands of passengers.
- Prioritization of regular route service.
- Execution of a corrective and preventive maintenance plan.
- Efficient management of human and technical resources.
- Operational strengthening as a public transport company.
The measure will remain in effect while the institution continues working on the full recovery of its vehicle fleet, reaffirming its commitment to efficient mobility in the country.
