MESCyT promotes educational transformation and bets on the careers of the future in the Dominican Republic
In the framework of its 48th anniversary, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCyT) has reaffirmed its commitment to the modernization of the Dominican university system. Under the management of Rafael Santos Badía, the institution seeks to align academic offerings with the demands of the fourth industrial revolution, prioritizing strategic areas that guarantee the scientific and technological development of the country.
Focus on STEM areas and international training
The MESCyT strategy focuses on STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), as well as emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science, and drone management. To consolidate this objective, 1,500 international scholarships have been awarded, of which 70% are destined exclusively for these key areas.
The head of the ministry also highlighted a new modality of academic exchange: “The plan is to allow professors from foreign universities to visit the country to teach postgraduate courses in critical sectors such as semiconductors, chemistry, physics, and aeronautics, facilitating hybrid training that combines local experience with international expertise,” the entity explained.
New opportunities for young talent
In order to expand access to higher education, the opening of 10,000 new national scholarships was announced. This program places special emphasis on recognizing academic merit, providing comprehensive support to students with grades above 95 points.
Young people must be encouraged; they cannot always be criticized. You also have to trust them and give them real support.

- Academic destination: MESCyT is working on the international recognition of local medical programs, with efforts planned in the United States to position the country as a regional reference center.
- Continuing education: In light of the advancement of automation, micro-certifications of approximately 120 hours will be implemented, designed for professionals to update their technical skills quickly and efficiently.
- Structural reform: The institution is advancing a legislative proposal based on the National Consultation for the Transformation of Education, which seeks to modernize curricula and strengthen the link between academia and the labor market.
With these measures, MESCyT seeks to transcend the traditional model focused solely on obtaining degrees, directing its efforts toward quality, scientific research, and employability, ensuring that Dominican human capital is prepared for the global challenges of the present and the future.
