Fedombal announces national pre-selection for the 2027 World Cup qualifiers
The Dominican Basketball Federation (Fedombal) has released the list of the 25 players who make up the men’s national pre-selection, ahead of the matchups corresponding to the fourth qualifying window for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Qatar. The team will seek to consolidate its position in the standings to secure its ticket to the premier global basketball event.
Rafael Uribe, president of the organization, along with general manager Junior Páez, confirmed that the core of the team will be led by high-potential figures such as Chris Duarte, Andrés Feliz, Jean Montero, and Jassel Pérez. The list reflects a mix of experienced talent and new promises of Dominican basketball.
Elite talent in the call
The complete group of those called up includes heavy hitters who have been fundamental in the tactical scheme of the tricolor team:
- Ángel Luis Delgado, Luis David Montero, Omar Silverio, Ángel Núñez, Juan Guerrero, Joel Soriano, Andersson García, Lester Quiñones, Gelvis Solano, Luis Santos, Jhery Matos, Koby Brea, Alfred Horford, Karl-Anthony Towns, David Jones, Rafael Castro, Justin Minaya, RJ Luis Jr., Luismal Ferreiras, Chad Baker-Mazara and Richard Bautista.
From this group, the coaching staff will select the 12 final players who will wear the national jersey in the duels against Brazil and Chile.
The continuity of Néstor Ché García at the helm of the technical direction is a fundamental pillar for the national team. The Argentine coach will be in charge of leading the training sessions and defining the strategy for these crucial commitments.
Schedule and path to qualification
The Dominican Republic arrives at this stage with a 4-2 record. The challenge will begin on August 27 when the team visits Brazil at the Nilson Nelson Gymnasium, in Brasilia, starting at 8:10 p.m. Subsequently, on August 31, the Professor Virgilio Travieso Soto Sports Palace will host the Chilean national team, in a match also scheduled for 8:10 p.m.
Currently, Group E is led by Brazil (6-0), followed by the United States (5-1) and the Dominican Republic (4-2). The goal of the Dominican team is to make the most of the upcoming matches to secure one of the seven tickets granted to the Americas for the 2027 World Cup.
