Donald Trump reaffirms his intention to declare the Strait of Hormuz as U.S. territory
Former United States President Donald Trump has intensified his rhetoric regarding the Strait of Hormuz by sharing a post on his social network, Truth Social, where he labels this strategic maritime zone as a “new American territory.” The message was accompanied by a cartographic image highlighting the passage between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman under a badge with the colors of his country’s flag.
A critical point in global geopolitics
Trump’s stance is based on his assertion that the United States has total control of the maritime route, ensuring that Iran’s military capabilities have been severely weakened since the start of the attacks in February. According to the former president, this situation gives him the authority to impose an effective blockade on the passage of vessels.
After we finish defeating Iran, which is being defeated very badly, very soon I will declare the Strait of Hormuz United States territory, in essence. We have a blockade. No ship passes unless we want it to pass.

This verbal escalation occurs at a time of diplomatic uncertainty. On August 17, the 60-day deadline established in the memorandum of understanding signed on June 17, which sought a permanent ceasefire in the Middle East, expired. With the expiration of this agreement and the stagnation of negotiations, the situation in the region remains under high tension.
The Strait of Hormuz continues to be one of the most important corridors for global oil and gas trade. The dispute over its control represents one of the fundamental axes of the current conflict between Washington and Tehran, whose versions regarding military capacity in the area remain at opposite poles.
