Joshua Báez makes MLB history with a three-home run debut
Major League Baseball has witnessed an unprecedented performance. Prospect Joshua Báez, of Dominican roots, debuted with the St. Louis Cardinals in a spectacular way, becoming the first player in the history of the circuit to hit three home runs in his debut game.
The feat occurred this Saturday at Wrigley Field, where the Cardinals defeated the Chicago Cubs 8-4. Báez, who finished the day 3-for-4 with five RBIs and three runs scored, left the fans present at the stadium stunned with a display of absolute power.
A dream start
Báez’s impact was immediate. In his first at-bat in the Major Leagues, he took advantage of the first pitch to send the ball 449 feet, with an exit velocity of 108.6 mph. Subsequently, the young talent continued his dominance:
- Second inning: He connected for his second home run, a 382-foot blast off Matthew Boyd, becoming the ninth player in league history to hit two home runs in his first game.
- Sixth inning: He etched his name into the record books with his third home run of the afternoon, this time a 368-foot shot, setting an unprecedented mark for a rookie.
In addition, Báez joined Bob Nieman (1951) as one of the few players since 1900 to record home runs in his first two official at-bats within the same game.
It’s surreal. Just playing baseball.

Even though he was retired with a line drive in his last at-bat, the Wrigley Field crowd recognized his talent with a standing ovation. After five years of hard work in the minor league system, Báez has shown that he is ready for the highest level, marking a milestone that will be remembered by fans of Alofoke Deportes and the baseball world for a long time.
