Dominican government to allocate more than RD$75 million in incentives to Santo Domingo 2026 medalists
The Government of the Dominican Republic has formalized an economic incentive plan exceeding RD$75 million, aimed at recognizing the effort and results of the athletes who reached the podium at the recently concluded Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games. This program, managed by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (Miderec), seeks to honor the country’s historic participation in the regional event.
The initial figure of RD$75.5 million covers the awards for individual medals, team sports, and the portions corresponding to the national federations. It should be noted that this total amount will be increased following the inclusion of incentives destined for the coaching staff, whose final figure is currently being processed.
Breakdown of awards and prominent figures
The award scheme for individual athletes establishes amounts of RD$300,000 for a gold medal, RD$150,000 for silver, and RD$100,000 for bronze. According to the guidelines of the Ministry of Sports, these incentives are cumulative for those athletes who managed to reach the podium on more than one occasion.
- Liranyi Alonso (Athletics): The sprinter positions herself as one of the top winners after conquering four gold medals, which guarantees her an incentive of RD$1.2 million.
- Paolo Pigozzi (Water skiing): With a record of two golds and one bronze, he will receive a total of RD$700,000.
- Nick Hardt (Tennis): For his two gold medals, the tennis player will receive RD$600,000.
The incentive program seeks to recognize the performance of the athletes, coaches, and federations that contributed to the results obtained by the Dominican Republic during the regional games.
Recognition for team sports and coaches
Team sports have a specific fund distributed according to the medal obtained: RD$3.2 million for gold, RD$2.8 million for silver, and RD$1.6 million for bronze. Disciplines such as women’s volleyball, men’s softball, basketball, and handball are among those that benefited due to their outstanding performance.
In the case of women’s volleyball, captain Brenda Castillo will receive special recognition. In addition to her proportional share for the team’s gold medal, the player will be awarded for her individual distinctions as best libero, defender, and receiver, thanks to an additional contribution announced by the management of the Women’s National Teams.
On the other hand, coaches will be awarded amounts of RD$200,000 (gold), RD$100,000 (silver), and RD$75,000 (bronze). Unlike the athletes, for the coaching staff, the incentive is not cumulative, with only the highest value achievement reached by their athletes being awarded.
A sporting milestone for the country
With a total of 150 medals obtained in Santo Domingo 2026, the Dominican delegation exceeded the expectations and incentives granted in the previous edition of San Salvador 2023. This economic effort reaffirms the State’s commitment to the development of high-performance sports and the positioning of the nation as a sports powerhouse in the Caribbean area.
