Pittsburgh – Major League Baseball (MLB) has announced a sanction for pitcher Chris Devenski, following an incident in the game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Cincinnati Reds last Saturday.

Devenski has been suspended for three games and will also have to pay a fine. The decision was made after the league determined that the pitcher intentionally threw a pitch at the batter Sal Stewart.

The incident occurred in the seventh inning of the game, held at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. MLB, through its senior vice president of on-field operations, was the one who communicated the sanction.

If Devenski doesn’t appeal the suspension, he will begin to serve it this Tuesday, coinciding with the start of a series of the Pirates against the Arizona Diamondbacks. In case of appeal, the sanction will be suspended until the process is resolved.

In addition to Devenski’s suspension, Pittsburgh manager Don Kelly was also sanctioned. Kelly was suspended for one game and fined for his responsibility in the pitcher’s actions. The manager will serve his suspension in tonight’s game in Arizona.

MLB reaffirms its position on discipline, especially regarding behaviors that may compromise the integrity of players, particularly those considered intentional within the field of play.
