Yankees close to the feat, but Fried shines in victory over Red Sox
In an encounter filled with emotions, the New York Yankees were on the verge of making history, but Max Fried’s outstanding performance secured the 4-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Wednesday night.
From the start, the Yankees took the lead thanks to a home run by Amed Rosario in the first inning. Fried, for his part, took control of the game, keeping Boston’s offense at bay for eight impeccable innings, without allowing runs.
The left-handed pitcher limited Boston to just three hits, conceded two walks, and accumulated nine strikeouts, demonstrating a top-notch performance.
New York was one out away from achieving its third consecutive shutout, something not seen since 1962. Although the goal was not achieved, a hit in the ninth inning prevented the feat, but did not prevent the Yankees from extending their streak to five straight wins.
Rosario was fundamental in the offensive, driving in all the runs for the New York team, first with his home run and then with a sacrifice fly that extended the lead.
The tensest moment for Fried came in the second inning, with runners on second and third with no outs. Undeterred, he responded with three consecutive strikeouts, stifling the threat and maintaining dominance on the mound.
The Yankees’ pitching, backed by solid defense, including key interventions by Ryan McMahon, was again crucial on a night that was close to writing a new chapter in baseball history.
