Miami – Dominican Republic manager Albert Pujols has reported on the situation of two key pitchers for the team in the World Baseball Classic.
Cristopher Sánchez, left-handed pitcher, will not be available to pitch in a possible final due to the restrictions imposed by his Major League organization, the Philadelphia Phillies. Pujols explained that the team must respect the work plans established by the MLB organizations for their pitchers during the tournament.
The goal is to win the Classic, but it would also be a great achievement to qualify the team for the Olympic Games.
Regarding Brayan Bello, Pujols revealed that, although the Dominican pitcher wanted to stay with the team, the Boston Red Sox asked him to comply with a work plan that includes pitching outside the tournament.
Pujols also highlighted the importance of Sandy Alcántara, considering him a key piece in the pitching staff. The right-hander could pitch again if the Dominican Republic advances to the final, becoming a possible strong card for the championship.
Dominican Republic seeks its second title in the World Baseball Classic, after the historic victory of 2013.
