In an exciting match of the FIBA World Cup qualifiers, Caitlin Clark proved her worth by debuting with the United States national team. After eight months of absence due to an injury, Clark returned strongly, leading the team to a resounding victory against Senegal with a score of 110-46.
Clark’s return to the court was impressive. In just 19 minutes of play, he scored 17 points with a perfect 4-of-5 from three-point range, as well as dishing out 12 assists. His performance was key to the team’s victory.
“I was excited, I’ve been preparing for this for a long time. There’s nothing like running and having fun, especially with a group of people as talented as this,” Clark declared.
The player had been off the courts since July due to a groin injury, followed by a bone bruise in the ankle. Despite the setbacks, Clark recovered and participated in the Team USA camp in December, feeling 100%.
In the match against Senegal, Clark demonstrated her ability to quickly adapt to the game, scoring her first three-pointer and immediately impacting the game. Her assists were fundamental, highlighting a pass to Monique Billings and two passes to Kelsey Plum.
USA head coach Kara Lawson emphasized Clark’s role as a facilitator, highlighting her playmaking ability and her capacity to combine scoring and assists.Clark also highlighted the importance of playing with rhythm and speed, elements that contributed to his performance in the match.
Paige Bueckers and Angel Reese also made their debut with the national team on Wednesday. Bueckers scored nine points, grabbed four rebounds, and dished out three assists in 14 minutes. Reese finished with six points and eight rebounds in 17 minutes.
Team USA will play four more games in the qualifiers, although they have already secured their place in the World Cup, which will be held in September in Germany.
