Caitlin Clark Out of Action: Misses Another Game with the Fever

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark will miss her fourth consecutive game due to a left groin injury. The team confirmed her absence for Thursday’s matchup against the Las Vegas Aces. Before this year, Clark hadn’t missed any games in his professional or college career. Now, he will add his eighth regular season game (ninth in total) out of play due to injury, after previously being out for five games due to a strain in his left quadriceps. Clark also missed the Fever’s 74-59 victory over the Minnesota Lynx in Tuesday’s Commissioner’s Cup final (the game doesn’t count towards league standings).

“My goal has always been the same,” Fever coach Stephanie White said on Wednesday. “I don’t want this to be something that drags on, that we come back too soon. We want to make sure she’s 100% ready and that her long-term health and well-being are the most important thing.”

Clark was considered doubtful for Tuesday’s Cup final before being ruled out a few hours before the match. On Monday, White had said that, although Clark practiced, she did so without contact. The 6-foot base is averaging 18.2 points, 8.9 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game in nine appearances this season, with 39.0% field goal shooting and 29.5% from the 3-point line, and was recently named a starter and All-Star captain for having received the most fan votes.

“She wants to play and is working to play and has been working to play,” White said. “And I think after a few days, it’s like, ‘okay, we have a little bit of time’ – I think it’s five games before the All-Star break – so we’re going to calm her down, even though she’s restless, and we’re going to do it the right way and make sure we’re ready to play and at 100% when she returns.”
