Candace Parker Criticizes the WNBA All-Star Game

The seven-time WNBA All-Star, Candace Parker, expressed her dissatisfaction with the performance shown in the All-Star Game. Parker, in a podcast that aired on Wednesday, called the game “horrible”.

“They can’t go out there with those ‘Pay us what you owe us’ shirts and then do that,” Parker told Aliyah Boston on her new podcast “Post Moves”.

Parker was referring to the warm-up shirts that both teams wore on July 19, in response to the failed collective bargaining negotiations with the league earlier that week. The players are fighting for higher pay and better benefits, among other improvements. The game set a record for points scored in a WNBA All-Star Game, and Napheesa Collier set the individual mark with 36 points. Team Collier defeated Team Clark 151-131. The defense was conspicuous by its absence, as the league stars allowed their rivals to shoot unopposed. Although this is not unusual in the all-star games of other professional leagues, Parker expected more from the WNBA players at a time when they are under the spotlight. “I think that in one of the most important scenarios, in an All-Star environment that invested more than in any other previous All-Star game… I think it really would have maximized the moment.” The Fever’s forward, Boston, who played on Team Clark, defended her teammates’ performance.

“An All-Star Game, where we have another game in two days, I think it’s good to go out and play and have fun,” she said. “Because on Tuesday, we got back to the action, and we were playing and showing once again why we deserve to get paid.”
