Tsitsipas and Goran Ivanisevic: End of a brief collaboration

Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas has ended his collaboration with coach Goran Ivanisevic, after less than two months of working together, as announced by the player himself. Tsitsipas, currently ranked number 29 in the world rankings, had added Ivanisevic to his team in May, following a series of unfavorable results in the Grand Slams. The runner-up of the 2021 French Open and the 2023 Australian Open, was forced to retire from his first-round match at Wimbledon last June, when he was losing 6-3, 6-2 to French qualifier Valentin Royer, due to a back injury.

Message from Stefanos Tsitsipas on Instagram

“Working with Goran Ivanisevic was a brief but intense experience and a truly valuable chapter in my journey,” Tsitsipas wrote in his Instagram story.

After Tsitsipas’ elimination in the first round of Wimbledon, Ivanisevic severely criticized the 26-year-old Greek tennis player, stating that “he had never seen a player so unprepared” in his life. Tsitsipas has reached the quarterfinals in only one of his last nine Grand Slam tournaments. Tsitsipas expressed his gratitude “for the time, effort and energy he dedicated to me and my team”.

“Now that we are going our separate ways, I only feel respect for Goran, not only for what he has achieved in tennis, but also for what he is as a person. I wish him the best in the future,” added Tsitsipas.

Ivanisevic, who won Wimbledon as a player in 2001, helped Novak Djokovic win nine of his 24 Grand Slam titles before leaving his team in March last year. Subsequently, he had a brief period with Kazakh Elena Rybakina, number 12 in the world, this season.
