In an exciting day of tennis in Bologna, Spain secured its place in the Davis Cup semifinals after defeating the Czech Republic with a score of 2-1.
The duo composed of Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martínez Portero won the decisive doubles match, defeating Tomas Machac and Jakub Mensik. This victory was crucial for Spain, especially considering the absence of their star, Carlos Alcaraz, who was forced to withdraw due to a hamstring injury.
The Spanish team, which hadn’t reached this stage since their triumph in 2019, where they won their sixth Davis Cup title, will face Germany in the semifinals, who secured their spot after defeating Argentina with the same score of 2-1.
Germany vs. Argentina: A Close Match
The match between Germany and Argentina was a real challenge. Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz, from the German team, defeated Andrés Molteni and Horacio Zeballos in a close doubles match that was decided in a tiebreak of the third set.
From Argentina, Tomas Martin Etcheverry managed to put his team ahead after an outstanding performance, but Alexander Zverev tied the score for Germany. In the decisive doubles match, Krawietz and Puetz came back to secure the German victory.
On the other side of the key, Italy, seeking its third consecutive title and the fourth overall, will face Belgium in the other semi-final.
The Davis Cup Finals in Bologna is the sixth edition of the renewed event that crowns a champion in a neutral venue.
