Raducanu advances decisively in the Italian Open

Emma Raducanu demonstrated her good form at the Italian Open by securing her place in the round of 32, after defeating Swiss Jil Teichmann in straight sets this Friday.

The victory, with partials of 6-2 and 6-2, was achieved in less than 90 minutes, showing a solid Raducanu from the beginning to the end of the match in Rome.

The British tennis player connected six aces, surpassing Teichmann’s only one, in a dominant performance.

Raducanu expressed her satisfaction with the adaptation she had to make, after Ekaterina Alexandrova, her original opponent, withdrew shortly before the match, giving way to Teichmann as a “lucky loser”.

To be honest, it was quite mental. I was warming up for my match against Alexandrova and, suddenly, I’m told I’m going to play against Jil and, moreover, she’s left-handed, so it’s a completely different challenge.

Raducanu also commented that she is still working on her performance on clay, but she was happy with the result.

I still don’t feel really comfortable [on clay], but somehow it helps me because I have to be super focused on every point, just to keep my feet in place and try not to fall, so it’s a great challenge. The points are long, the balls get heavier, when I was serving it was getting slower and slower, so it’s physical, but little by little I’m finding my place.
