The renowned British tennis player, Andy Murray, two-time Wimbledon champion, will participate in the design of a statue in his honor. The Wimbledon organizers announced that the statue of the British tennis icon will be unveiled during the 2027 edition.

The Scottish tennis player won his second title, and his third Grand Slam singles title overall, in the 2016 final against Milos Raonic. The inspiration for this statue project was the tribute to Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros, where Murray was present. Nadal was honored for his 14 French Open titles.

In 1984, a bronze statue of Fred Perry, the previous British men’s champion before Murray in 1936, was erected to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his first singles title at the tournament. The 2025 tournament at Wimbledon will begin on Monday.
