Kyrgios Returns to Roland Garros to Compete in Doubles

Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios will make his much-anticipated return to the French Open, marking his first participation since 2017. On this occasion, Kyrgios will team up with compatriot Jordan Thompson to compete in the doubles tournament.

Kyrgios, known for his talent and charisma, has faced significant challenges due to injuries to his foot, knee, and wrist, especially after his outstanding performance in the Wimbledon final in 2022. This year, he has only participated in four singles matches, with a victory at the Miami Open in March.

Kyrgios’ participation in Roland Garros was not planned, considering that his last appearance in the tournament was eight years ago, when he lost in the second round. However, the tennis player changed his mind after the doping suspension of Max Purcell, Thompson’s usual doubles partner.

“The French Open wasn’t really in my plans,” Kyrgios commented. “But after what happened with Max Purcell, Jordan was looking for a partner and asked me if I wanted to play. We’ve played together at the French Open before, so it’ll be good to go out there and play with another Aussie and have some fun.”

Kyrgios is a very attractive figure in the Grand Slams, both on and off the court, thanks to his natural talent and authentic personality, although he has also been involved in controversies in the past.

Although he has not yet achieved a Grand Slam singles title, Kyrgios won the doubles title at the Australian Open in 2022, alongside Thanasi Kokkinakis.

Despite doubts about his future in tennis, Kyrgios is expected to resume his singles career during the grass season next month, before Wimbledon.

The French Open will begin on May 25.
