Alexandra Eala advances to the semifinals at the ASB Classic

Filipino tennis player Alexandra Eala has maintained her excellent performance at the start of the WTA Tour season, securing her place in the semifinals of the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand. Eala achieved a resounding victory in the quarterfinals, surpassing the Polish player Magda Linette with a score of 6-3, 6-2. This triumph represents a significant milestone for Eala, as she had previously faced Linette on two occasions, with the Polish player emerging victorious in both encounters. In the semifinals, Eala will face Wang Xinyu, the seventh seed from China.

Eala added: “I did my best. I do what I can and if I see an opportunity, I think it’s important to go for it. Today was difficult. Obviously, Magda is a very experienced player and I had difficulties playing against her before, so I’m happy to have seen my level increase and improve.” In her Auckland debut, Eala, seeded number 4, defeated Donna Vekic with scores of 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the initial round. Subsequently, she advanced to the quarterfinals after winning 6-0, 6-2 against Petra Marcinko.
